DEVICE CHECK

Compatible phones

Plota installs on unlocked phones that already have eSIM hardware. iPhone XR, XS, and later usually qualify. Some iPhone 11 phones do not, and they look the same as the ones that do.

Some iPhone 11 phones have no eSIM

iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max support eSIM when sold in most countries. The same models sold in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau have two physical nano-SIM trays and no eSIM chip. iOS cannot add one later.

A locked phone is a second failure. An iPhone 11 can show an EID and still refuse Plota until the carrier unlocks it.

Check the phone you have

  1. 01

    Look for an EID

Settings → General → About. An EID means the phone has eSIM hardware. No EID means Plota cannot install.

  2. 02

    Look for Add eSIM

Settings → Cellular, or Mobile Data on Android. The row is Add eSIM, Add Cellular Plan, or Download a SIM.

  3. 03

    Confirm it is unlocked

Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock on iPhone. It should say No SIM restrictions. A locked phone can block a travel eSIM.
